On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, SARA KATHERINE BAYNE (nee Spangler), loving mother of the late Stephen Bayne, died peacefully in her sleep after a long and courageous battle with melanoma. She was 97 years young at the time of her passing. Sara is survived by multiple generations, including her son Mark Bayne (wife Lynn), granddaughter Leigha Banderas (husband Kevin, great granddaughter Sophia), granddaughter Nicole Wasylkiw (husband Blaine, great grandsons Ben, Liam, Finn, and Charlie), granddaughter Krista Bayne (partner Danielle Landriscina, great grandson Cody), grandson Michael Bayne (great grandsons Mikey and Max), and granddaughter Bree Pucci (husband Carl the 3rd, great grandchildren Jayden, Sienna, and Carl the 4th). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with Amedisys Hospice, her immediate family provided their matriarch with exceptional care at the end of her days, allowing her to remain at home. During this time, Sara taught us how to live! She thoroughly enjoyed visits from church friends, giving Bree in marriage to Carl last September, travelling to California to celebrate the Christmas holidays with Leigha and Nicole in December, getting to meet her 8th great grandchild, "Four" in April, and getting to be with her son Mark and Lynn as well as her church family. Mom was rich in the important things, for sure.
Sara lived a long and happy life, always seeing the best in people and she was a faithful servant of God, having been saved at Grace Bible Baptist Church 44 years ago. She looked forward to her passage through the pearly gates where Sara would be reunited with her parents (Kenneth and Minnie), three sisters (Winnie, Eleanor, and Shirley), husband (Carroll), son (Stephen), and many friends like Pastor Earl Johnson, Jr., Marie Lucantoni, and end-of-life companion, Ray Pryor.
As many know, mom-mom cornered the local market on yarn as she loved to crochet and knit. Countless babies were gifted these colorful and warm creations over the years. Sara also loved her baseball, especially the Baltimore Orioles! If you tried to pawn an "old" You Tube game off as a "live" game, she would be sure to let you know. Now the team has one more angel cheerleader to guide them through the playoffs! Go O's!
A memorial service will take place on September 16, 2023, at 10:30AM, Grace Bible Baptist Church. Lunch to follow visitation and service. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to Grace Bible Baptist Church, 1518 N. Rolling Road, Catonsville, MD 21228, in her loving memory.
