Tracey L. Smyser

Tracey Lynn Smyser, 59, died at 1:30 p.m. October 30, 2020 in Mercy Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. She was born November 28, 1960 in Greensburg, Indiana and only child of John L. and Pat Smyser Smith. Tracey attended Greensburg schools and in Greensburg High School she won a speech contest when the school place eighth place competing against 18 other schools. She was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg and sang in the choir for several years. She attended Hanover College on a Presbytery scholarship for three years and earned her degree from Purdue University in 1983.  She earned her Master of Arts degree from the University of Baltimore in Maryland in 1990. She taught speech, English, and Literature at the University of Baltimore for 22 years.  After her career in education Tracey worked at Harris Teeter in the bakery for 5 years. Tracey is survived by her wife of 27 years, Linda Goodwin, her mother, Pat Smith, cousins, an aunt, Pete a half-brother, and step siblings, Nancy Grimes, Don Smith, Hugh Smith, Virginia Horton, other friends and family of the Butcher's Hill community, friends and colleagues from her education career, and friends and colleagues from her time at Harris Teeter. She was preceded in death by her father, John L. Smyser, her stepfather, James F. Smith, several aunts and uncles. No visitation is scheduled and burial of her cremains will be held at a later date in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. Local arrangements are being handled by the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
