Michael G. Krause

August 13, 1972 — October 28, 2020

Michael G. “Moose” Krause passed away unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at the age of 48.  Michael was born on August 13, 1972 in Wayne, New Jersey.  He married Jilian Chevalier of Erie, Pennsylvania in the Cadet Chapel at the United States Military Academy at West Point on September 4th, 2010.  Michael and Jilian lived in the Canton area of Baltimore and together were raising three energetic boys, Michael J. (MJ), Robert (Bobby), and William (Billy).

Michael graduated from Wayne Hills High School, New Jersey in 1990. He then attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. While at West Point, Michael played Offensive Guard for the Army Football team as a two year letterman, including helping the Army team to three paramount wins over Navy!

Michael was commissioned as a Regular Army Aviation Officer on May 28, 1994 and subsequently served over 21 years in the United States Army and Maryland Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Major.  Michael was a dedicated Army Helicopter pilot and loved his time in the cockpit.  Michael loved flying and he flew hundreds of hours in various aircraft including the twin-engine, tandem rotor UH-47 Chinook Heavy Lift Helicopter.  During his military career, Michael deployed to Afghanistan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt.  The Army stationed Michael at Fort Rucker, Alabama; Camp Humphries, Republic of South Korea; and Wheeler Army Airfield in Honolulu, Hawaii before his final posting in the Baltimore area.

Michael obtained a Masters’ degree in Business Administration from the University of Hawaii.  While in the military, Michael was awarded the following decorations:  Bronze Star Medal, Army Air Medal, Air Force Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Joint Service Commendation Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (6th Award), Army Achievement Medal (four oak leaf clusters), Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star,  Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award), Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ “M” Device,  NATO Medal, Basic Recruiter Badge, Multinational Force and Observers Medal (2nd award), Senior Army Instructor Badge, Senior Aviator Badge, Basic Aviator Badge, Air Assault Badge, and USA Recruiter Badge.

Michael retired from the Army in 2015. As a new Regional Vice President with Primerica Financial Services, he began operating a financial brokerage, a career he began on a part-time basis while still serving his country. Michael was passionate about teaching middle class families the importance of how money works and how to build a strong financial future. His entrepreneurial spirit helped him not only successfully teach clients, but also build a strong organization of hundreds of representatives within his organization.

Michael is survived by his wife, Jilian and their three children, MJ, age 6, Bobby, age 4, and Billy, age 1 and 1/2.  He is also survived by his parents, Michael P. and Loretta Krause of Southport, North Carolina, his brother Mitchel and his wife Jessica and their children Emilia and Annabel of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his sister Michele Bick and her husband Peter and their children Kylie, Jack, and Tori of Tega Cay, South Carolina.  Additional survivors include Michael Chevalier, Father-in-law and his wife, Marcy Haller of Erie, Pennsylvania, Diane Chevalier, Mother-in-law of Jacksonville, Florida, Dustin Chevalier, Brother-in-law of Erie, Pennsylvania, Cory Chevalier, Brother-in-law and his wife Alyssa and their three children, Colby, Carson and Bodhi of Jacksonville, Florida, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends may call on the Kaczorowski Funeral Home located at 1201 Dundalk Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland between the hours of 3PM to 5PM and 7PM to 9PM on Friday, November 6th.  A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Casimir Church, 2800 O’Donnell Street, Baltimore at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 7th. Please note that face masks and social distancing will be required at the funeral home and church service. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on February 22, 2021 at 1:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Krause Boys’ Memorial Fund.  Contributions may be sent via Venmo to @Jilian-Krause or by mailing a check made payable to “Jilian Krause” at P.O. Box 6180, Baltimore, MD 21231.
