+Fr. Samuel (Joseph) Zebron, OFM Conv., was born in Baltimore, MD on August 2, 1932, and passed away on June 19, 2017.   He was the son of Joseph andJennie (Popera) Zebron, Sr.  In addition to his Franciscan family his brothers Bernard Zebron, Frank Zebron and his wife Ruth and numerous nieces and nephews, survive him.  His brother + Anthony Zebron and his wife + Shirley, his sister-in-law + Stephanie Zebron, sisters Virginia Alex, Sr. Martiana Zebron, FSSJ, and Sr. Juanita Zebron, FSSJ, predeceased him.

Friar Samuel entered Mt. St. Lawrence Novitiate of the Franciscan Friars Conventual, Becket, MA in August 1949.   He professed his vows on August 15, 1950, and was ordained to the priesthood at St. Michael’s Cathedral on May 24, 1958.  He did his philosophy and theology studies at St. Joseph Cupertino Friary, Ellicott City, MD and St. Hyacinth College and Seminary.

After his ordination Fr. Sam was a teacher at Baker-Victory HS, Lackawanna, NY from 1958 to 1968.  He a taught at Archbishop Curley HS in Baltimore, MD for one-year.  In 1969 he requested permission to become a Military Chaplain.  Fr. Samuel served as a military chaplain in the US Air Force for 21 years attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel upon his retirement in 1991.  His military experience formed his life and he conducted himself with the high expectations of military bearing.  He retired after receiving numerous medals and honors.

In the years after 1991 Fr. Sam served at St. Leonard’s Community, Centerville, OH; he was the Pastor at Holy Family Parish, Hooversville, PA as well as at St. Joseph Parish, Augusta GA, and Holy Spirit Parish Macon, GA.  Fr. Sam moved to St. Mark Parish, Boynton Beach, Florida in 2002 as Parochial Vicar and he retired in that same friary a few years later.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 25 from 6 – 8 p.m. and Monday, June 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Mark Church, Boynton Beach, FL.   A Franciscan Wake Service will take place at 7 p.m.   On Tuesday, June 27, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. preceded by visitation beginning at 9 a.m.    Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.  Memorial Donations may be made to the Franciscan Education Burse, 12300 Folly Quarter Rd., Ellicott City, MD 21042.
