Eugene R. Luberecki, Sr., affectionately known as Gene, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, D.C. Born on June 16, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, Gene was a first-generation American who took great pride in his Polish heritage and culture. His life was a vibrant tapestry of music, family, and community, woven together by kindness, humor, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved.
Gene's journey began in the world of music, where he played the saxophone with The Stratfords in 1963-1964, a moment Gene looked back on with immense pride. The Stratfords recorded three singles for O'Dell Records, one of which climbed to number 4 on the local Top 40 popularity charts. His love for music was only rivaled by his dedication to service, as he spent approximately twelve years with the Baltimore Police Department before eventually finding his calling in IT Program Management. He enjoyed each IT project he worked on immensely, keeping a display of business cards and mugs from every one of them.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Gene was known for his kind and patient nature. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, especially if it involved utilizing his vast collection of tools and gadgets. He loved to entertain those around him with a treasure trove of comedic T-shirts and "Daddy" jokes, and he enjoyed sharing adventurous stories from his youth with everyone willing to listen.
Summer represented a time of happiness for Gene, as he cherished every moment spent at the beach, particularly fishing. He took great joy in teaching his grandchildren the art of fishing, creating lasting memories that would be treasured for generations. He took pride in his hobbies, whether it was honing his skills as an amateur carpenter and mechanic, tending to his yard, or exploring new culinary delights in the kitchen. His love for knowledge was unquenchable, leading him to spend countless hours reading and traveling, with fond memories of his time in Italy alongside family.
Gene was married to his devoted wife, Mary D. Luberecki (née Marciniak), for an incredible fifty-six years. Their love and commitment to one another were beautifully evident in their tradition of renewing their vows every twenty-five years, an act that spoke volumes of their devotion. He is survived by his beloved son, Eugene R. Luberecki, Jr., and his wife Eugene Luberecki (née Roncal); his daughter Michele C. Luberecki and her partner Brian J. Gieselman; and his daughter Danielle D. Luberecki and her husband Sean Johnson. Gene was a proud grandfather to Madeleine, Ethan, Sofia, and Paxton, who were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Luberecki.
In sorrowful remembrance, we also honor those who preceded him in death: his mother, Anna H. Lapinska; father, Anthony A. Luberecki; brothers Raymond, Anthony, Clement, and Leopold Luberecki; and sisters Henriette Blazejak, Dolores Truszkowski, and Theresa Zinser.
