Betty (Ahola) Hakala went to be with her Lord on December 3, 2021. She was born on September 13, 1922, at home in Negaunee, Michigan to Jacob and Martha (Heikkala) Ahola. She grew up on Teal Lake Avenue and after graduating from high school she completed two years of college and began her teaching career at the age of 19 in a one room schoolhouse in Germfask, MI. Over the years, she continued her education and achieved her Masters degree. She taught in several school systems including Champion, Diorite, Negaunee, K.I. Sawyer AFB and Gwinn. She thoroughly enjoyed her work as a teacher and a librarian in the various school systems.

She met her husband-to-be in Gwinn, MI. He joined the army during World War II. Betty traveled by train to Texas and married Oiva (Huck) while he was training before being shipped overseas to fight in the war.

She was very active socially and loved to entertain. She was well liked by many people and had a lot of friends. They spent summers with family at their Three Lakes camp and then later at their Johnson Lake property. Betty and her husband liked to move. They have lived in Negaunee, Gwinn, Marquette, Sun City West, AZ and finally settling in Baltimore, MD with their daughter Beth. She will be greatly missed by her children and all those whose lives she touched.
